Capsicum (green pepper) is nothing but green-coloured bell pepper. It has the shape of a bell hence, the name. Capsicum is a medium-sized fruit pod. Its skin is thick and brittle with glossy outer cover and a fleshy texture. It has a moderately pungent flavour. Capsicum is rich in many vitamins: it contains plenty of vitamin A, B (especially B6 and B9), and C, various carotenoids, and antioxidants. Capsicum also has anti-inflammatory properties. The vitamins of capsicum counterbalance the destructive effects of free radicals in our body. Its anti-inflammatory properties can relieve pain and swelling associated with bone disorders like osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis. Since it has phytonutrients - which are natural chemicals, capsicum is good for asthma patients. The vitamin C present in capsicum improves heart health. Capsicum is also rich in calcium. Hence, it is good for bones. The presence of phytonutrients makes it good for skin and anti-aging. Capsicum is very effective for rashes, blemishes, acne, and other skin infections.
